Looks like red fuzz. Will not blow off with Turkey baster. Even grows where return line blows on it. 5 days treatment with KZ Cyano Clean has no visible effect. 1.025 salinity, 8.2 PH, 0 NH3, 0 NO2, 2.5 NO3, 9 DKH, 480 CA, .05 PHO4. Tank is 5 months old. Running an ATS, skimmer, and carbon.

Cyano blows off of rocks very easily with a turkey baster. If it doesn't blow off easy as you have stated then I doubt its cyano.

#reefsquad, any ideas?

Sure looks like it. Your parameters seem fine but have you tried Chemiclean? In addition, I would try to blast it off with powerhead and/or turkey baster.

IMHO, no it's not. Maybe the start of some coraline algae?

It doesn't really looks like Cyano to me. The Cyano I've had tends to have some stringy tendrils by the time it's that dense. Also the color looks off. Could just be lighting.

If it is Cyano, a few days from now you should start to see some stringy, slimy tendrils start to grow off the areas where it's most dense - keep an eye on the far right tip in the photo. If it is Cyano, try getting those nitrates down. Otherwise, Chemiclean should kill it.

If you can't blow it off easily I wouldn't think it's cyano, the distribution on the rock seems wrong too.

Is your tank new? It may be some other type of algae or bacterial. Can you get a sample and get a picture under a microscope?
