Hello! My tank is about 2 months old now. These started showing up more in last few days. Is this diatom or dino? My phos is around 0.05, nitrate around 1.

First question are you using tap water or RO water? and if so where do you get your Ro water or what filteration are you using?

its hard to tell but it looks like diatoms to me. Most of the times Dinos would have some bubbles after a few days but still keep an eye out since its hard to determine without a microscope.

Diatoms are common on a new cycled tank.

dont let your tank hit zero nutrients thus will encourage dinos to bloom since they wont have any bacteria to compete with them.

Thanks for the reply!

I'm using RODI with 0 TDS. I have a skimmer and carbon running in mesh bag. I've reduced carbon since last week to get nutrients higher.

I would still think that its diatoms once all the silicates depletes it will go away on its own, mean while siphon as much as you can do 10% water changes every week. Also you can turn off your skimmer to help bring nutrients higher. Ideally 3 ppm nitrate and 0.08 phosphates is the goal.

Ok these started developing more today. Is this dino??

Phos is now 0.05, nitrate 2.
