I'm pretty sure it is. I just thought I would check. It's a rusty brown color. Tanks only 2 months old. I'm looking into more sand cleaners to clear it up but just want to make sure before I buy cleaners

Astrea snails are great.

Also, try turning off your lights for 2-3 days

i have corals no lights out possible. Astraea according to reefcleaners are more rock and glass. I have a turbo and some hermits and other cerith but they spend most of the time on glass and rocks. I need sand dwellers.

Plus I added some cheato for sump to go with the ulva and pom pom. All are growing well but more doesn't hurt.

So the diatoms are only on your sand bed?

Do you have SPS? Corals can handle 2-3 days without light. Even in nature, during rainy days. SPS are definitely more sensitive, which is why I ask.

No sps. But I don't mind the Diatoms. I do have some on my rocks also. But it's turning more to hair algea. But from my research with a new tank it is bound to happen. No way around it. I would rather let the tank go through these algea out breaks and level on its own. I don't wanna throw off cycles and interfere with it all over diatoms. It will subside over time

You do you. Just trying to help. Good luck!

No thanks for the help. I am all for ideas how to handle new stages as they come that's why I posted this question. For now I am fine with the Diatoms. They are part of my algea cycle. I'll get some cleaners and then if I have a worse issue then lights out is an option. Thanks alot

Not a problem. I should have probably asked as well, if you mind the diatoms. If you don't, then you're on the right path.

I just didn't want you to think I didn't appreciate your info and advice. I'm not one of thoose who know everything or think it. I'm here to learn. And take advice on how to make a beautiful reef for my fish and corals to enjoy.

I had some diatoms and then started to get green hair algae. Began using microbacter clean while I waited on my clean up crew. After the clean up crew arrived they had the hair algae licked in a week flat. The MB clean seemed to slow things down a bit and overall I feel like I avoided a couple of outbreaks. I’m happy with the combo of MB clean and CUC.

1 week later. Hair algae is gone.
it’s even cleaner now like 3 weeks later.

I have some more cleanup crew coming I know what tanks are supposed to go through although I have never seen it. So Diatoms, hair, cyno, and hopefully Coraline. I will get a few cleaners as this cycle goes.
