Found this little thing under my filter sock. Never seen one before. Do I kill it or throw it back? I think it kinda looks like a starfish and def moves

Asternia starfish/ also known as aquilonastrea stars. Theres debate about whether or not they are good. Most people say good. I've had good and bad experiences with them.

Get rid of it. They multiply like mice and will take down zoa coral in no time

In my tank when I had an overfeeding issue the population exploded. My guess is that the population got so big that there wasn't enough algae to munch on and they started eating my zoas. I fixed my feeding problem and killed hundreds of them but did not completely eradicate them. I have low numbers in my tank and they just serve as cleanup crew now and don't eat my corals anymore.

I’ve never had any eat coral, and I’ve never seen actual proof that they do. Personally, I think they’re a good part of the CuC, and don’t get out of control unless you overfeed.

Decided to flush this one based on the logic is it worth risking my corals for baby starfish that you can’t get rid of. I’ll do a bit more research and rly appreciate the help. If I’ve found one there’s probably more!

You can breEd them for a pair of harlequin shrimp :)
