Hi there have this on my substrate over last few days. My testing kit got tossed out by accident so I don’t have any parameters but was going to do a water change today. Is this good or bad and what do I do to correct it. Hanns is only about 2 months old

I’m going to be upgrading to a bigger tank soon but I’d still like to learn what’s happening here as well as if I need to solve it or let it run it’s course and also I don’t want the fish living in an unhealthy environment if I can help

Looks like Cyanobacteria to me. It likes to live in warm, high nutrient systems with slower moving water. A combination of big water changes, making sure there isn't excess buildup in your sand, higher water flow and potentially lowering temperature a little bit can help. There are also some additives to kill it but there is mixed success with these products.

Flow could definitely be stronger. Is that vibrant that you are talking about I’ve heard a lot of chatter about that. What temp would you suggest going to I’m at 78 now and should I try and suck what I can out with a gravel vac?

I've never personally used Vibrant, but there's certainly a lot of talk about it. Seems like it will either help or do nothing as opposed to killing corals and invertebrates. Chemiclean is another product but again there's both good and very bad results with its use. Vaccing your sand bed can help, I'd keep it at 78, and the many times I've dealt with it increasing flow has helped.

I’ll try vaccing what I can out during water change and maybe get another power head in there. Thanks
