My tank is about 6 months old, at about 4 months I started getting my first paches of purple coralline, and more recently I started getting some deep red coralline growth. For some time I've had a green algae growing on my glass (it resembles freshwater green spot algae a lot), it's hard to remove, so definitely not green film algae. I've read it's the start of purple coralline, but it's been there for more than a month and not a speck of purple. Could it be green coralline algae?

Parameters:
Salinity: 1.025
pH: 8.1
Temperature: 26.5ºC
NH3 and NO2: 0 ppm
NO3: 2 ppm
PO4: 0.03 ppm
Cálcium: 450 ppm
Magnésio: 1450 ppm
Kh: 6.5 dKH

It could be. You could leave it for a few weeks and see. it is not so much a green coraline as the start of pink or purple Coraline. it may just turn white if it dies off. Can’t hurt to see what happens in a small area. You can always scrape it off.

Thanks! I plan on keeping it until I find it's blocking the the view just enough. If it's the start of puple coralline how long will it take to color up?

Not sure how long. If it is, maybe a few weeks.

Are you saying that pink/purple coralline start off green?

Its algae. Scrape with good quality scraper or edge of an old credit card

It can. I’ve seen mine start as a small spec and grow like plates. Other areas I have seen rocks or grass covered in green which will turn to coralline. Trick is to know the difference. Can’t always tell

I just clean glass but 1 pick is my rock with it plating. Then I found a corner I missed scraping. You can still see a bit a green that hasn’t turn yet.

I was surprised to find green coraline algae. It has remained the same color for 3 weeks. It grows next to pink coraline. I think it is kind of ugly.

The lower two images were taken of scrapings from the glass. The red strands are cyanobacteria about 10 microns in diameter.
