What can I do to stop this mess?Looks like the beginnings of Bryopsis. Hard to say for sure without seeing the algae leaf itself. But its fanning out to much to be Hair Algae imo.
I have mostly dry, dead, rock. Added a few frags and about 2 lbs or live rock to seed. My system has been going for about 2~3 months now. I will get a better shot in the morning when the lights are on.Lets confirm it is first. Is that Dry rock you have in the tank, meaning not Live Rock? How long has your system been set up? Can you get a closer visible shot of the algae leaf?
If it looks like this to you, then we can go the raising your Magnesium to 1600, using Kent Tech M.

One strand growing out of my sand bed looked fern like which scares me. I was just reading the 100 page thread on Kent tech m and all of the horror stories. I really hope it's not.It very well may just be Hair Algae, as it is a new tank. But, the bottom pic just looks like it has the fronds of Bryopsis to me. What do you think?
Yeah I have a bunch of turbos and hermits going to town right now and it seems to be settling down, fingers crossed.Only place it could have come from is the frags you have, but its growing so far from them, I'd call it Hair Algae at this point. Just need some snails to clean it up for you
