Is this growth??

Just wondering if this is growth or bleaching? Sorry for poor pic. My parameters are calc 470 dkh 9.5 and mag 1600. I used red sea pro test kit and coral pro salt
I had and I'm still getting the same thing. I was told it was called STN and eventually lost most of my SPS frags. I'm very new to keeping SPS and certainly claim no expertise but I blamed it on high Mg from the Red Sea Coral Salt plus I dosed a little extra Mg based upon one faulty reading that caused my Mg levels to be over 1600. I may be wrong and would appreciate any corrective advice.

Kinda hard to tell with that pic. But if that is birdsnest, it appears to be growth. White pointy tips are what you see when it is growing. Bit if those white pointy tips start to get a brownish type algae on them, then it is bleaching, and or dieing off a bit. That doesnt mean it's a total loss, sometimes the a tip or two can not be happy, but the coral will be okay. So just keep an eye on it.

I am going to bring up this older post ... so I can ask for an update on your birdsnest 'fireman23'. Did it turn out of be growth? Can you post a up to date picture on that coral now , after 3 months later? I am real curious because I have a pink birdsnest frag and in 4 weeks it has gone crazy what the heck white tips and lots of new with pimples/tips coming in all over. My mag levels go down every week - I do 15 gallon water changes weekly. I am hoping it's growth and not bleaching. This was at week 3 (this week the white tips are even longer and pointed).

Thats a good sign white pointy tips means good growth.
