Is this how I make a DIY cover?

So I recently had a loss, my Dracula goby, due to jumping. I realized its my fault and I need a cover. I went with light diffuser egg crate and after installing it blocks out a decent amount of light and doesn't look like it will stop a small goby. After doing some research I think I'm going to buy some 1/8" clear netting from BRS and then this from lowes:

Am I thinking this through right? Is that how you do it? And a couple follow-up questions if that is how you do it... with 3/4" it seems like it'll hang over the trim quite a bit, or is it not really noticeable? And how does the netting attach to this kit? Is 1/8" overkill and I could go with 1/4" or is that kind of needed for the smaller gobies?

Oh wow, thank you. Seems a lot easier then I thought it would be. Yes I know I didn't watch the whole things lol, just fast forwarded through it. So that kit I put a pic of is what I need? And what would be better for gobies and such, I had a 29gal so it's nano fishes I am keeping, 1/8" clear netting or 1/4"?

I've used the BRS 1/4" clear netting with great success. Not a single jumper since I switched from eggcrate (lighting diffuser). I'm pretty sure that small/medium fish see the eggcrate as a challenge!

I got lengths of the frame (6'?) and corners and then cut it to fit. I also made mine in two sections - a narrow back piece with slits in the netting so that cords go through and stays in place, and then wider sections for the front that are easily removable for access to the tank

What type of fish do you have? I’m planning on fire fish, goby, blenny (small fish) and I’ve read stories of those small ones still getting through 1/4” netting. I just can’t afford and hate losing expensive fish from jumping.

Alright bet. I’m going to get clear and if anything I’ll try and spray paint it. Thank you!

I absolutely would not spray paint it. It would increase the diameter of the strands and thereby block more light, and almost certainly flake off and drop pieces into the tank.

If you attach small acrylic pies on top that go last the edge amd rest on top of tank. Kind of like this picture the yellow resembles the acrylic

I like the idea of acrylic pieces. I know they sell clips that attach to the tank also. I’ve seen them on here but I don’t remember who

I've seen these used also, but I like how the screen fits into the tank a little bit with the clips. As opposed to sitting on top. It gives it a bit of a rimmed tank look.

On my lids I used mosquito netting I got at a local hobby/fabric store for $1.

I also made my frame out of 1.5" strips of acrylic, but I would still use the mosquito netting with a screen kit.
