Just want to make sure I am doing it correctly on the salifert magnesium test kit. I know there’s supposed to be an air bubble gap in the syringe and you’re going off based on the black rubber line correct?

and when it’s done, you’re again read the black line correct?

Yep, that's right. Agree on the design. Was wondering if there are any better tests out there.

Wait a Minute ? Why would you read that at the black rubber and not the actual fluid line ? The black rubber is at 1.0 but there is only .75 of fluid in the syringe.

Just an FYI if you draw the fluid into syringe to fast you get that bubble from air leaking past the black rubber as you draw it up.

Also to prevent this I moisten the black rubber before it is inserted into the syringe housing so it seals better and allows less air past it

I’m moving to the next thread Ive said all that needs to be said here………

No wonder why people have such a hard time doing these tests the directions say draw 1 mL of fluid not 1 mL of fluid and air you only have .75 not 1 mL milliliter

The tip of the syringe holds liquid which offsets the gap you see.
so you saying that if op has .5 of fluid in it and rest .5 air it is ok ? Because the tip compensates for it ? Oh man thank god you not building engines with me..

Yes thats correct per the directions. Pull back the plunger till it hits the 1ml mark (The fluid will not be at the 1ml mark) then run the test and when the color shifts take your reading from the plunger and not the fluid level.
I agree the directions are odd. My guess is the pink tip has a .25ml volume and thats why there is a difference.

This is pretty much industry standard. Nowhere I have read that says the syringe should be filled all the way to the line with liquid.

Even if you don't have the tips on, there is still a small amount of air in the syringe tip.
