Hey guys,
This is popping up on my Magnificent Foxface. It was there 2 days ago, gone yesterday, back today. Thoughts/treatment? (Hes in a 6ft reef dt with 200# LR and inverts, I cant catch him so treatment has to be in tank.)

It doesn't look like Ich to me (though your history is troublesome for it) but let's see if we can get some more knowledgeable eyes on it.

Could be flukes but the appearance isn't clear for that though. That would be a best case scenario as that's the only disease I can think of with a reef safe treatment.

It's hard to tell from the pictures, but if they are white spots, it is likely ick. Velvet would show itself as smaller spots, closer together, and cover the fish as it progresses quickly. Google pictures of ick and velvet.

Follow this link to find the only proven methods to help you treat ick, posted by the fish disease experts at R2R. It also has good advice to treat other diseases as well. I have the page bookmarked! Good luck with the treatment!

I don’t think it’s ich, but it is a possibility.

As mentioned the only thing you can really treat for that is a reef safe remedy that actually works is flukes using praziquantel. Which may be what you are dealing with.

The spots don’t look like ich to me but pics can be deceiving at times.

My experoence is foxface dont get ich.. ive had two in two seperate aquariums once riddled with ich that would kill tangs and other fish that get it and i never saw my foxface get a single one.

How long have you had that fish. He looks skinny btw. Foxes get really thick... so if youve had him for a long time id suggest you feed more nori

Ive had him about a month, I'm currently feeding him 4x a day. Up close it looks like an ich spot surrounded by a black halo? It doesnt look like black ich or regular ich or flukes. Idk?! Should I prazipro the DT, I also have metroplex and kannaplex on hand. Thoughts? Thanks!

I wouldnt worry about it as i said foxface are super resiliant. Personally id Just watch it for now. Foxes have super thick slime coats.. in fact they actually slough off their coats in nasty creamish slime every now and then

It could be some parasite they tend to leave black spots after they fall off. I also wouldnt use prazi.. ive found its pretty harsh on salt water fish. My naso tang ballooned up and his guts were coming out of butt from prazi.. seems common with naso.

Hes fine today but just saying.

If it is ich the only way to really treat that is catch and everyone else.. put them in a cycled qt. And do copper or hyposalinity.. I dont like copper at all its poison to fish.. I did hyposalinity on my two tanks and in 2 months it crushed ich.. (was gone visibly in a week) its been 4 months i havent seen one one spot ever since.

That or you leave the fish in the DT and take all your corals out into a holding tank and do hyposalinity in the main tank. This is how i did it. Moved 30 corals into a smaller tank and kept my fish in my 135g in hypo for 2 months.

Didnt lose any corals doing that.

But honestly 2 spots isnt bad. Keep an eye on it.. if it gets worse you can go from there but im 100% confident a foxface cant actually die from icj.. like i said my foxes were in infection city.. i mean virilent ich where tangs or angels would get it.. be riddled.. and in 4 days be dead. And mine never got it. Or they did get a dot or two but nothing bad.

What other fish do you have
