Is this ich or velvet guys! Help please

So my friend is new to this and his tank is 8 gallons I think. He just got these 2 clowns a few days ago. Today they look like this. He went back to the store and they made him purchase prazipro and they told him it’s bacterial. I told him it looks like ich or velvet.

What does it look like to you guys and what should he do? Is there anything he can do at this point?

Velvet = Too many to count

The LFS your friend went to was incorrect. Doesn't look bacterial. If he is planning on treating, i would suggest a new tank, and setting up a QT with copper (I use Cupramine for my QT). Once I treat for 2-3 weeks, I switch to Prazipro for anything else.

Side note: The tank now has ich/velvet in it, and I would suggest removing all fish, and letting the tank go fallow for 76 days without any fish in it

He also asked how I think the fish got sick this fast. Most likely he purcahsed it like that correct? But what made the spots come out even more ?

The stress of moving from the lfs to the new tank suppresses the immune system and the slime coat the fish have. If he used a net its likely additional slime coat was removed. This makes it much easier for ich and velvet to spread. This is why QT is always recommended. Now his DT is infected and as stated should begin a fallow period.

He does not have an extra tank! Can he lower the salinity to see if that helps or crank the heater up?

Raising the temp is a freshwater thing. Lowering the salinity if more for marine Ich.

1st prazipro doesn't treat bacterial, antibiotics do. 2nd that is velvet or brook, treat fast.

Without another tank, not much he can do. You can try doing garlic / selcon on the food, but it wont get rid of the velvet in the tank. Once you get Velvet / ich, without going fallow, your tank will always have it from now on.

This goes without saying. DO NOT treat your main tank with copper. The copper can seep into the seals, and if you ever do coral, it can be bad.

Newbies learn the hard way in this hobby. Wish ppl would learn how important quarantine was before jumping in. Not enough ppl encourage it ...is a problem too.
