I bought this blue tang the other day and i knew it had ich on it.. but i was determined the help it and (rescue it) per say plus ive always wanted one.

At the moment ive been doing tank transfer on it. Ive been actually transfering the fish from small 2 gallon storage bins to critter cages twice a day disinfecting each one as i go.

Yea twice a day is because obviously the bins and critter cages arent cycled and 2-3 days will build up ammonia.. so i do once in evening.. once in morning.. i feed him once in the morning and once in the evening. Then change the water and container for the night.

Im using my 135 gallons tank water.. i just pull out a hose on uv sterilizer and fill it up.

Ive had him for 3 days now and honestly i dont really see white spots or cysts anymore. Im seeing what i think looks like brooklynella.. but im not sure.

Originally he was riddled with ich cysts.. but im not sure if this is still ich.. these almost look like slime coat looking spots on him but i dunno if its still ich just covered in slime coat.. or something else i dunno.

Here are some pics.. he eats alot and swims around great i can tell he wants to move ina bigger tank.. so he isnt lethargic... He does breathe very rapidly though.

I am doing tank transfer because i did hypo on my main tank 4 months ago and it made my prior blue tang basically swell up like a ballon and he died.. my other 4 tangs and fox face and other fish handled it fine so i dont think blue tangs csn hsndle hypo.. that or my other blue tang was just sick internally.

I have cupramine but i need to order a new test kit. And my 6 gallon qt i setup eith live rock from my 135g and sand for some reason has 4ppm ammonia so i cant put him in there just yet.. plus id have to do copper in it first which will kill the pods and cause more ammonia.

My 20qt tank is already occupied with fish that cant handle copper so hense the tank transfer.

But after 3 days with spots still on him im not sure if its ich or brook or something else... if it were velvet im sure hed be dead by now i dunno.. should i continue doing what im doing and see if he improves Mm. Im guessing by day 4 5 6 ect if it doesnt improve its probly not ich and something else.

Fyi each whitish area you see on him is raised when you look at him from the side

That is just ich, I don’t see any evidence of brook. Possibly a bit of secondary infection or entrance wound irritation.

A rally bath would be very helpful IMO. 90 minutes.

Blue hippos are just have really sensitive skin and the irritation seems extreme with them almost always IME.

Ok then ill continue to tank transfer with fresh tank water from my 135 twice daily. Hopefully itll dissapesr in the next 2-3 days as ich takes 3-7 days to fall off and its been only 3.

Hoping for a speedy recovery:)
Besides a rally dip have found GC useful with ttm, as most of the effect is within the first hour of adding. Just need to make sure have enough surface agitation for the prazi in it.

How is he handling the 20g? I use ttm on small wrasses. Whenever i qt larger more active fish always feel i need a qt tank larger than i am willing to do 100% wc on and always fall back to CP or copper if its a CP sensitive fish.

Im doing ttm in smaller 1 gallon containers... itd cost a fortune in salt to do that on 20g tanks. Lol

Im actually doing ttn 2x a day... once in the am i feed him then wait 30min then i scoop him to w small jar.. then rinse the container in bleachwater and let it air dry.. the other container i fill up with my 135g tanks water from the 150gph pump i have hooked up to my uv sterilizer.. SO hes getting water right after a uv.

Then in the evening i feed him again and wait 30 min.. and change back to the other container for the night.. and repeat the next day.

He has an airstone for water movement and circulation.. hes litterally 1 1.2 inches.. so hell be fine in 1 gallon containers during this process. I also cut 5 inches of hose off and toss it with the airstone and use fresh tubing and a new air stone. Airstones are dirt cheap so is tubing.. got like 10 of them for like 5$

Im on day 4 now.. tomorrow will be 5.. Tbh though the spots are still there...hopefully they go away soon.. because if they dont after 7 days then it isnt ich.. its something elss

Well here is day 7 in tank transfer. Im still doing 2x transfers a day after each feeding. So i dont have ammonia issues. I feel once every 2-3 is bad.. i noticed high ammonia after the first day.

Anyway he is looking sooo much better
