I bought a sailfin tang recently and added it into my DT without quarantining. i have already removed all my fish and started to treat for ick with cupramine. Does this look like ick? I've seen pics where it looks like spots but this is more blotchy just want a second opinion thanks in advance... ALSO I WILL NEVER ADD ANYTHING WITHOUT QUARANTINING AGAIN! Lesson learned

I feel for you, I am at 6 weeks and a couple days into my fallow period.

It could be a couple of things...

To me it looks like where the ich was and now has fallen off and left open skin if you will. It's where the ich was on the fish.

However it could also be a bacteria infection so you want to keep an eye on poop and movement/swimming patterns.

Any stringy white poop?

I have not seen any stringy white poop. the swimming is normal also besides the fish trying to swim sideways to scratch on the rocks

How long have they been in copper and is it at theraputic levels yet?

The ich takes up to 7 days for the cycle to leave the fish and then the copper protects the fish for the rest of the treatment as ich is still in the tank just in eggs if you will and the ich dies as it cant grab onto the fish because of the copper acts as a shield.

Usually copper treatment is 14 days if you have a clean sterile 2nd QT to move him to.

If not you need to treat the fish for 30 days in copper to make sure you out run the ichs life cycle.

It has only been 3 days i got them up to the recommended dose yesterday. I will probably take my clowns out after 14 days i have a 20g i can put them in and leave the sailfin in my quarantine tank for the rest of my fallow period

Doesn't look like ich. Did the fish at any point have salt size specs that were slightly elevated from the skin? Any other symptoms displayed such as flashing, scratching, rapid breathing, etc?

Yeah he was scratching against the rocks and stuff and flashing

could def be bacterial infection. i would treat with melafix. heard thats pretty good. i used to just use kanaplex but barley did anything. honestly if you think its ich and its in copper should be ok, but if copper doesnt work to heal it then i would use bacterial meds.
