I just want to verify that my Hippo Tang (and likely others) have ick.

Posting a YouTube link works, but really, I need a clear still photo without any specks in the water...and even then, I can't always tell.

Regardless, I’m treating for ich anyway with Copper Power. Second dose is today, I’m at 0.60 right now. The 15 day clock starts once the dose is above 1.5, is that correct?

I’m going to pull the fish out of the tank and sanitize the tank. They will temporarily go into a sterile 38 gallon storage tub for a few days. Sanitizing the tank is as simple as soaking everything in vinegar water and rinsing it out, correct? I’ll replace the sponge filters instead of trying to reuse them.

I’m struggling to see ich, but copper is always warranted for fish that haven’t gone through it and have unknown symptoms.
You should go to full dose copper power in two days, no need to take longer, that just lets any disease get farther ahead. I go 30 days with coppersafe...
I’m confused - why are you sanitizing the tank? You’ll just be battling ammonia if you clean your sponge filters.

The hepatus tang has some stringy feces and seems kind of emaciated.

I was under the impression that toments can survive copper treatment and the best way to eliminate it was to transfer the fish to a sterile environment after 15 days. My plan was to transfer them to a different container so that I could sterilize the tank. I was going to replace the filters with new and dose Stability to help propagate the bacteria. I can’t use the DT sump as it’s going fallow. After this time I will simply seed my sump with extra sponges for new additions.

I go 30 days with copper and avoid doing that. The risk is holding fish in a system that doesn’t have an operating biofilter. Oh, and I’m not sure where the idea of using vinegar as a disinfectant comes from, I’ve never seen any efficacy testing for that. I use bleach, but only if I have to because it is so difficult to rinse out.

I was going to use the air pump and sponge in the holding tank while I sanitize the other one. Once the tank was clean I was just going to replace the sponge with a new one, along with the supply hose. The air pump should be fine for 2-3 days I would think?

Might be ok, just monitor your ammonia. I’d still dose copper for 30 days with a 14 day observation period at the end.

I’m on day 7 of 76 going fallow. I have lots of observation time ahead of me.

How do I mitigate the emaciating fish? Increase feeding? I feed frozen daily (small cube) and sheets a couple times a week. Could it be a parasite?
