Please tell me this is just GHA,and not Bryopsis. The tank is about 6 weeks old now and has 3 chromis a chalk bass and tiny mimic tang. Light feedings, heavy skimming and refugium with chaeto. Tips on dealing with it? I vacuumed a lot of with last water change and seems to have slowed dramatically.

Ya it's not the textbook fern shape. Its very tender and easy to pull off the sand or rock. It vacuums right up. I do have some tech m if it is in fact bryopsis but i need a definitive id.

At 6 weeks in it would make a lot more sense that it was GHA, and it doesn't look like bryopsis at all. Not to mention your description about it being tender and easy to remove is totally reminiscent of GHA.... I feel very confident you have GHA.

Forgive me for saying, but the picture is too blurry for anyone to make a positive ID. If you can see feather like shapes to the strands it is bryopsis. If the separate pieces are straight with no feather like look to it than it is most likely GHA. Bryopsis usually has a hold on the surface so you should feel a little resistance and trying to pull it off completely. It also has a tendency to grow in separate Tufts rather than one big patch

I'll take more pics tonight. There eeally is no resistance when pulling off rocks or sand. It doesn't look much like a feather in that it grows 360 degrees around the stem and not flat like a fern or feather.

When you zoom in on that last pic, you can see the main stems with little pieces coming off of them. Still a little blurry but my guess would be bryopsis

Eh maybe my eyes are going bad, still don't see the frond-like structure bryopsis has on his algae.

Well if you zoom in on that last one you can definitely see the main stocks of each piece in the blurriness and that is not possible with hair algae
