Is this light ok?

Hello everyone, i am currently cycling my 20 gallon long reef aquarium. I know I don't have enough rock in there but I will be adding some shortly! Lighting has always been confusing for me and I have a few questions about it. Are the lights shown in the pictures good enough for spas and other low light corrals or would I need to get better lighting?

Need a better light. way better light. I'd suggest a 4 bulb t5. those flood lights will probably grow a lot of algae real good for you. I'd remove those asap. you don't necessarily need light while you're cycling.

Aquaticlife makes good t5 that come with built-in timers and lunar leds.

I'm not using them wile cycling just getting lights ready for corals in a few weeks. Thanks for the tip though I will look into some t5's!

I don't think these are t5's but the description says they are. Just double checking is this what t5's look like?

It says led t5. that leads me to believe they are led diodes inside a plastic tube that fits in t5 end caps. so people with t5 fixtures can use leds. those particular ones look pretty cheap.

The lights shown here are a bit pricy for me. I'm kinda on a budget right now (I know a stupid thing to do wile in the saltwater hobby). I'm thinking about installing some leds. Would these work?

These are cheap, but definitely better than what your proposing to use. And you can always throw better bulbs in the fixture later. like ATI

Yup those odysseas are the best low budge option out there. Some even have timers.

Can always keep an eye out on Craigslist for someone tearing down a tank and having lights for sale. I have picked up used t5 fixtures for less than $50 that had no issues.
