I have a deep blue 80 (16" tall) and just picked up a 48" ATI 8 bulb sunpower a few days ago. I'd like to add a couple reefbright techs to the front and back for that pop during dawn and dusk. Currently I have an aquatic life 6-bulb t5 with a single panorama pro blue mounted to the front.

The master plan is to grow out a bunch of SPS colonies and add a shallow 30g frag tank to the system while I save up for a custom display tank that's around 60 x 30 x 20. I'll be going for ULNS with heavy feedings using mostly aquaforest products but am a little concerned that the ATI and RB techs are going to be way too much light for the 80.

Any thoughts on lighting schedules and how high I should start the ATI at?

Thanks.

Yes, its a lot of light . I wouldn't worry about it though , having the 8 bulbs to choose from gives you more color options . As far as how high to mount them , I would get a lux meter ..... even a simple app on your phone to give you a ball park estimate. Take a measurement at the surface of the water with your old fixture and match it to the new . Just raise the fixture till you get the same reading. Its a start , you can raise or lower on how your tank responds.
