To add, it's application will be applied where it will be lit by LED lighting directly so no UV that I'm aware of and in high flow.

I wouldn't use it......it contains asphalt!

What do you want to use it for?

Mainly I'm looking for a mesh with spacing slightly less restrictive then plastic 7 mesh canvas spacing to place over some gyre pumps for a critter guard and anemone protection. I haven't found a black 5 mesh canvas yet.

Edit: and yes the asphalt part caught my attention and why I threw up this thread.

My wife buys garlic in fine mesh bags. I would think this fine mesh would work well over a gyre.

Thanks, I'll have to check it out. I'm looking for it to be black as well. Or I guess anything that wont stick out like a sore thumb. I've found plastic 5 mesh in white not black. I've also found 5 mesh for rugs that's an off white and with stripes that's some kind of fabric.

Yea, I'm talking white mesh.....

I use this stuff from time to time. Gutter guard from just about any hardware store.

Yep, I got that and have been thinking of weaving a thick nylon line through it to make the holes smaller. Just haven't done it yet. The opening on those I'm afraid will still allow an anemone's tentilcle though and pull quite a bit in. I'm just trying to minimize any anemone damage with as little flow restriction as possible. The gutter guard works well for weirs and overflows where there's not spinning blades behind them. :)

Couldn't you use krylon fusion spray paint on the white mesh?
Thought it was safe for in tank..

I've thought of something to dye it. I've used krylon on pvc and acrylic in tank and has been fine but they don't flex. Still, eventually the paint becomes brittle and has chipped on me in the past. To service the mesh will be taken off and would most likely crack and chip off the paint. I wouldn't want to continually repaint.

I think I'm going to break down and get some thick nylon wire and weave through the gutter guard cutting down on the opening size and try it out.

Actually don't know why I didn't think of this before ad that image put a spark in my brain. I have some mesh bags like for laundry or hold beach stuff. It's smaller holes then the gutter guard but bigger the the 7 mesh. I'll have to look when I get home but may be perfect. Also, I would assume it's either polyester or nylon and would be reef safe?
