It’s 8” from the top. Ai prime HD is ~11” off the water.

The edges towards the bottom look a tad bit bleached, but overall looks pretty good.

Break the piece off, split it in two, place one up high and place one down low, see what happens and report back. Assuming water Paramus are ideal I would put my money on the piece getting more light brightening up. Also water flow could be a factor.

My orange monti will take a blasting and ask for more. If they don’t get enough light they will also loose color and turn white.

It is in an area farthest away from the light. The part closest looks great so you may be right

This isn't bleaching. This is a nutrient issue, you either have low trace elements or low nutrients and the coral is going pale due to starvation. Bleaching is typically on parts closest to the light and looks very white. My monti's due this when I don't add trace elements, usually once I get back on schedule they color right back up.

Monti's are very hardy corals that can and will grow like weeds. I can tell you 100% you're not bleaching them and would probably not be able to if you tried. It looks like your zoa's may be extending a little bit for more light...even more proof your monti is getting nowhere near enough to bleach.

19" away from a prime I would bet that's getting under 280 par.

What's your water change schedule and do you dose anything to the tank?

No3? Po4?

I had the lights on acclamation but turned that off a day ago. I’ve been working on bringing up no3 a bit. Was zero up until this morning. I’m starting kalk this weekend and I add Kent essential elements every 7-10
Wc every 7-10 but have extended that to help no3 come up.

I would say no. Looks like it's growing in that area and thus the lighter color.

They will have a light color but it is only at the leading edge as they grow out; the picture above looks like it's pale about 1" in from the growing edge. This isnt consistent with growth.

I've seen red monti caps start to pale like that when they weren't getting enough light.

They can tolerate very low light without getting pale (well under 100 PAR). At 250 PAR mine bleaches from too much light so you certainly cant blast them either. This may be due to lighting but I'm not sure.

Definitely lack of nutrients. 0 NO3 and 0.02 PO4 it’s not good for them. I would try to get some more NO3. Personally I like to have NO3 between 1-5

Unlikely

Older growth can have darker coloration, newer growth can have lighter coloration. Very light coloration at the perimeter edges is rapid growth.

Mine has all of those characteristics.

Looks great! I’ll just hold the line for now and see what it does. It’s relatively new in my tank so could be other factors but I’ll watch it and give it some time. I had one like yours in my old tank years ago like 10” or so from metal halides and it was fine. I don’t think I’m pushing that much light right now as I’m slowly cranking these primes up.

+1 on this. My montis have grown in very low light before. Especially when they scroll over themselves, they get seem to get a darker red lower light. In high light they get very bright almost pinkish/red.

What ever direction you choose to go at least red monti plates are about as bullet proof as any sps out there. I would still try and break odd a few pieces and put them at different heights and flows and see how they respond in different micro conditions. This is assuming your water params are optimal.
