Is this new growth or a critter or something?

I just noticed this today. I tried to blow it off with a feeding tube and they are def attached. Sorry for my ignorance I’m still new to the hobby.

Pineapple sponge. Generally harmless, some take them out, but only for aesthetic reasons. They usually clear up once the tank has matured. Hope this helps!

I for one, would welcome your new sponge overlords.

Kidding aside, they tend to be harmless. I’d be shocked to find a mature reef tank that doesn’t have them under a rock or in a sump. I find sponges tend to grow in no light/low light places. Watch out for them in or on equipment as they can sometimes be problematic.

I am in the process of upgrading my lighting to the prime 16 hd. And I’m getting a par meter. This guy is in a lot of light I’m surprised they chose there to grow. It won’t hurt or slow down the growth of my favia?
