Recently purchased a Planet Aquariums stand/canopy. The canopy seems oversized to me. Feels like if I tap it one way or the other, the whole thing is going to fall.

Does this look normal? Kind of wild to spend $1000 on a canopy that they couldn’t simply double check their measurements before sending it out….

Can it fall off?

Don’t think that’s right. Should fit tight Mayb an 1/8” tolerance on either side. I would accept that. Especially if customer made and measured.

While the design is correct, it is not the right fit. Mine on 2 different taks have a gap thats very little- this is excessive

Can it fall off?
Yes. It slipped off when we put it on and then realized how loose it was. I figured it was supposed to be a bit more snug.

Looks like I’ll just have to find some scrap wood to nail into the sides here and make it fit properly.

Was this a custom order? If not, was it possibly intended for a rimmed/trimmed tank, which would be about 1/2 an inch wider?
This. Canopies are typically built for a rimmed tank. I'm shocked someone sold it to you without explaining that. You can mod it, but I wouldn't run that on a non rimmed glass, your begging to chip something at a minimum and I don't want to even talk about worse case scenario.

If you are set on a canopy then adding a second piece of wood like you said should be fine. It's not like your going to be taking it on and off all the time. Wood is also softer than glass so as long as your careful I don't see a problem. I would use screws rather than nails. Easier if the peices need to be removed in the future.
But a canopy on a nice rimless tank :thinking-face:

I know, I’m crazy. The rimless tank was cheaper than a rimmed option and I chose to put a canopy on it so my kid’s aren’t staring up at the blue lights . I also preferred the rimless eurobracing option because I didn’t like the idea of center bracing blocking my lights.

Also, I made the modifications that I mentioned and they are working as intended and don’t look too horrible, aside from the large gap on the sides. Thankfully it’s much less noticeable when the canopy is closed.
