I picked up a sea hare at my LFS today and he’s been munching away at my GHA. I understand that when my tank is algae free I’ll have to send him away but he’s doing great for now and I have plenty of algae. I’m kind of worried though because looking at pictures their hole doesn’t look this big. Is this normal or is he injured or dying? I must say he is moving a lot and very active and eating just worried maybe overthinking.

While consuming, that opening is expelling waste
It’s when it’s back splits (see pic)that it’s dying. Also, not moving or waking up when lights go on, laying on its back and lump on its body that it’s dying or weak

It’s splitting and not a good sign. Pick it up and squeeze slightly. It should move. Also when attempting to do this, if it has a bad smell- again dying
Has it moved in the last 8 hours?

it was put in my tank about 8 hrs ago and its been venturing all over devouring GHA. Actively moving to where I can see its movement just watching for a few seconds. Does splitting heal itself over time or will it just slowly die?

As long as it’s active and eating , you’re good
They venture right away late morning and consistently poop through the opening while eating

Also I assume you acclimated it

Okay that is some relief. Any specific signs I should look out for that it might be dying?

20 min floating bag, about an hour medium drip
