Hi all. I got this toadstool leather 2 days ago and after leaving it on the sandbed to get used to its new surroundings, glued it on a rock ledge higher up in the tank where it gets good light and flow. When the lights are on it seems very happy as you can see in the last pic, fully erect and all polyps open and swaying. However, when the lights go out during the night, it closes up and slumps on its rock. I know this is normal My question is, is this healthy for it to slump on the rock like this, with its full weight supported by the stalk? There is no rock under the rock it's standing on, so when it slumps the head is really hanging down.

Very normal. All of my leathers shrink up when the lights turn off. Also they will occasionally "shed" their skin so don't freak out if one day it is all slimy and shriveled up. It should come back in a day or two. Raising the flow a bit will help speed up the process because it washes away the old skin.

Just had my toadstool slough off their skin, polyps were closed for one day. Opened back up the day after the slough peeled off. And yeah, mine closes up and shrinks every night when lights out. Almost all my corals do.

Thanks everyone. OK, normal, but is it healthy for it to hang over nothing like that?

The drooping over is normal. It should stretch out and back to your light during your photo period.

My toadstool can be shrunk up for days even a week so when it is shedding, and will come back bigger and better than before. Mine started off as small as my pinky tip and now it is almost as big as my hand. It is almost impossible to kill them.
