Is this normal for pocillopora

So I had a piece of this coral (8-9 inches) randomly turn completely white. I figured it died so naturally I took it out and threw it away. So now a couple months later, i noticed 4 small colonies of pocillopora growing in random spots. They're all a few centimeters and looking really good.

I'm assuming it reproduced some how, but my question is, is this normal?

Yes they can spawn.
