Is this normal in sand?

My tank is believe is going through the ugly phase and I wanted to see if they brown in the sand is normal and if snails is the remedy to clean it up.

It’s sounds as though your tank is fairly new. So honestly a lot of that will pass as the tank ages. I personally would wait a bit longer to add snails, because if most of that passes of it’s own most if not all of your snails may starve.

If it is brown it ls likely diatoms. Should resolve on it own!
