Is this normal wrasse behavior?

Looks normal to me, just not feeling bold enough to venture out much.

My fairy wrasse does this when feeling intimidated, like if I've got my hand in the tank and he's not feeling threatened but also doesn't want to be out doing the usual (harassing smaller fish).

So the smacking onto sand is nothing to worry about

Thats not a corris wrasse. But, having a leucoxanthus (silver belly). It's checking for a warm or hostile welcome.

Should I put more finer sand into tank to make bed thicker
He'll be fine as long as nothing startles him scared. They only cover themselves enough to alliw gills to move. They really dive into sand when frightened. You'll want 3" for that. No aggressive tank mates will alliw for a much happier wrasse.

Yeah no one is aggressive at all there peaceful I thought this was the fish flashing so I was worried about parasites

At least hes out and about already. My melanurus wrasse disappeared for 3 days then just showed up.
