Today this trumpet coral closed up and discharged brown, mucus like strings. Is this normal? It has been doing really well, growing and multiplying. This seemed sudden.

Probably just expelling excess zooax. I wouldn't worry much about it unless it stays that way for an extended period.

It is ex creating excess zooxanthellae. The symbiotic algae that the coral uses to feed on. Basically it took a poop. It's normal for all coral to do this one time or another. Mine do it to. Nothing to worry about.
