I do awc nightly, 6% a week in total. It’s Popeyes and first things I would investigate is fine air bubbles in tank and overall water quality
Can also be a bacterial infection,
Overall, since it is only slightly popped and/or cloudy then you can simply build the fish's immune system to help the fish fight the infection itself. To do that you add a rotation of vitamins to their food and be sure that the water quality is very good. I use Vitachem and Zoecon myself. It helps to do several small water changes whether the tank needs it or not.
Nitrates are a bit high for doing auto changesI do awc nightly, 6% a week in total.
Tested water this morning and it's
35ppm
12ppm nitrates
.07 phos
There are no microbubbles I can see
I've been feeding nori (green), sea veggies (red), mysis, and pellets on occasion. This just popped up over night. What other water param should I check??
I did dose nitrates that high on purpose last week, they were sort of low at 3ppm. Using nyos. Hanna for phos. I could increase skimming to be more wet?Nitrates are a bit high for doing auto changes
What test kits are you using?
Add garlic extract and selcon vitamins to the foods
foods:
Spirulina brine shrimp
Small plankton
LRS herbivore diet
Formula 2 flake and frozen
Baste the nori with garlic
Maracyn 2 is great if bacterial. In many cases, Popeyes in one eye only could be to a bump or injuryI guess at what point do I or how do I determine if it's bacterial? They just got done with ttm qt
I think I have some Maracyn but will hold off and see if it improves naturally. I'll also watch to see if other fish get it.Maracyn 2 is great if bacterial. In many cases, Popeyes in one eye only could be to a bump or injury
What I find concerning is having nitrates that high and zero ammonia as they work together as part of the cycle and there should be some reading.
Also note that Having high nitrate levels in a reef aquarium may lead to many problems. Nuisance algae growth, a decline in coral health (loss of color/growth) and fish and invertebrate illnesses.
Recommended is .25 and high being 5
It’s a hair darker than zero but looks safeAmmonia looks 0 to me. (red sea test)
I think I have a fresh salifert ammonia test, I'll do that real quickIt’s a hair darker than zero but looks safe
As a suggestion to do a proficiency check on your testing, take a good water sample to a trusted LFS and have them test the water for you and see what results they come up with and to compare with yours
Will that change water quality. . . somewhat. Will it because of popeye, likely notLooks 0 or very close to 0 too.
I noticed that my skimmer is not skimming. It was skimming a day or so ago but today, nothing at all.
This might be key here - how long ago did you finish with the TTM? One very common cause for exophthalmia in marine fish is physical trauma while moving the fish. The fish shakes their head and fine air bubbles develop in the blood vessels of the air, and the eye protrudes.I guess at what point do I or how do I determine if it's bacterial? Interesting, didn't know that. I moved him on Monday evening around 8pm. I do not recall if he flopped around in the colander. This might be key here - how long ago did you finish with the TTM? It may not be correlated, I usually see popeye develop within 24 to 36 hours of the injury.Interesting, didn't know that. I moved him on Monday evening around 8pm. I do not recall if he flopped around in the colander.
I mean, that does fit the timeline. I discovered it early this morning which would put it near that 36hr mark.It may not be correlated, I usually see popeye develop within 24 to 36 hours of the injury.
