It is hard to tell what this is. Why are you usuing a cannister filter on a reef? Have you tested your water?

Iam saving up for a 20 gallon sump and overflow.... will be doing it in the next 3 months...

But I need to know if the montipora supposed to look like the pictures...

I think its supposed to be a Smooth Encrusting Montipora Coral (Montipora nodosa).

The Smooth Encrusting Montipora Coral is a small polyp stony (SPS) coral often referred to as Cabbage, Lettuce, Velvet, or Velvet Rock Coral.

It is alive, but not happy. Can't tell much more than that with those pics. It still has polyps which is good, but looks like the flesh might be dying off between the polyps over most of the coral.

What are your tank's parameters? Cal/alk levels?
