consider how we've discussing removing sandbed invasions here

see if your tank can be worked in the ways mentioned there, lots of options ranging from simply cleaning it out correctly to dosing one of many additives

that reefer there also wants light sandbed growths fixed...see the options presented in good detail they can work for your tank as well.

Agree with Brandon! ChemiClean works well I had no ill effects on corals or livestock also. But your in the early stages. A week or so isn’t long. You’ll want to get it under control although as quickly as you can. Siphon it out and figure out why it’s growing go less light etc. Before you dose always try the other options natural options. More importantly you need a correct diagnosis for Cyano before you try ChemiClean.

how many gallons was this tank above

that one in the work thread is only 13 gallons so its easy to handle, curious how many gallons this reef is above. manually cleaning it correctly will beat any other method but its work intensive, rarely used on larger reefs.

Before jumping on chemiClean (which does work(. . its an alternative and not a solution.
Lets' find the cause and prevention as Chemiclean is a very small vial for the $18

What is your phosphate level?
What test kit(s) are you using?
Are you using RODI water or tap water from the faucet?

Reduce white light intensity for a few days and DO NOT FEED ANY CORAL FOODS OR NoPox FOR AT LEAST A WEEK

Can not tell when the tank pics are blue does it look like this?
yeah, I agree repost with a white light. Red slime is usually Cyano. My tank was only 13.5 gallons as well also age of tank. Newer tanks sometimes get blooms as things stabilize. So tank size as somebody else said please mention? Vetteguy isn’t wrong either. Try to solve the problem first before dosing.

Probably either lack of trace N or P or large imbalance between the two.

I use RODI water only. I havent checked my levels yet tho. Should I keep my lights totally off for a day or 2?

Agreed that’s large tank, feel free to try all other methods first.

if it gets bad, here’s a 120 gallon system being deep cleaned four times over in one post, due to working so many systems we have a match on file for most tanks.

an ace for the back pocket if needed.
