Is this safe?

my dad knew I wanted a magnetic rock shelf and didn't want to spend so much- - so he made this for me.

I had no idea what material he picked out- this synthetic rubbery type of material made for aquariums- is it ok? I am never sure if fresh water decor is safe for reef or not

I hate the color- if it's safe I may rub epoxy on it to make it look more natural

Hard to say without knowing exactly what it's made of. Who knows what could end up being a source for leeching or toxins. I wouldn't use it if I had any question concerning its composition or chemical properties. You said it's made for aquariums, but I'd be skeptical without knowing the company / country of origin, etc.

I would also be concerned about the type of magnet used. not all magnets are reef safe.

I decided to let it soak over night and the water turned a litle orange. I told my dad I'll pick out a rock and we'll try again. He did try his best!

Neodymium magnets are not reef safe, so hopefully they are sealed well.
