I bought my first shrimp yesterday. I've had no experience with shrimp. I made sure when I drip acclimated it, the water was the exact same salinity before adding it. When I added it everything was fine, he was walking around and cleaned my snail shell. Today it's just hanging on a rock at the back of my tank. Not moving, just standing there. I'm sure it didn't shed; is this normal or should I be worried.

its probably fine, what kind of shrimp is it? is it not moving or only moving slightly? the tank is fully cycled right?

What type of shrimp? Yes a lot will just hang out all day, usually in or outside some cave or crevice they chose. Then forage for food and such at night and run around the tank.

Scarlet skunk cleaner shrimp, I can only see its antennas but its just hanging on the rock not moving. Yea tank is fully cycled 11 months old.

if it's a cleaner shrimp, give it time to adjust. they're very skittish at first and then they get comfortable.

oh thats normal, they chill out in the dark until night and then run around, they may come out more often in day after a while

Scarlet skunk cleaner. Okay, it was very active yesterday when i first added it which is why I was concerned. I bought it later that night which now could be why. Thanks.

nah, its because it was in a new space, it found its favorite spot now and will usually chill there from now on, it might come out during feeding time

scarlet skunk shrimps, plus probably many others, are more comfortable when there is less activity going on. mine for the most part, will stay where it feels safe (usually in the back of the tank) until night. night time, he is in complete control of the tank, usually looking for pods or other food to eat.
also, when they molt, they tend to stay out of sight for almost the whole day or two.

all in all, its completely normal.

p.s. after a while, or at least i can, they will probably allow you to hand feed them. if i have to put my hand in the tank, he is coming to hitch a ride without fear.
