Hi all,
I bought this stand alone cabinet for my 10 gallon reef tank because it had almost the exact dimensions of my tank, perfect right? But there’s this groove around the edge and I’m worried about the tank not sitting flat on it and the glass having issues. I just want to know if you guys think it’s worth the time to fix it up into a tank stand or to find a new one

Thanks for the help!

If it just needs refinishing, why not?

Is it water damaged?

If the entire base of the aquarium doesn't sit on the inside portion of the top, I'd replace the top (easy enough) or use something else. Better safe than sorry.

I would suggest either replacing the top or just putting a piece of 3/4 plywood on top. Seal it well (paint/stain/whatever) and go with it.

If the top is not water damaged, split or bowed... sand down, primer and paint. No point throwing away good wood.. you can always replace the top after if you don’t like it. That way you haven’t lost anything as I assume you’ll have to paint the new top??

Upcycle that unit save your money
