Is this STN?

That would be nice if it’s a shading issue. I’m not home right now, but I’ll take a look at the tissue when I get home.
Acros do not recede like that from shading, especially if it’s only been in your tank for 2 weeks. You may of just got an unhealthy frag that got pushed over the edge with the stress of tank, chemistry, lighting change. It happens to the best of us. You could try fragging it but I’ve had better luck treating stn with witch hazel, 4-5 mls per 25 gallons per day. I did this in a separate tank but I had zero negative side effects to fish or other corals and the stn stopped after 4-5 days.

OP: "Those are polyps at the base and all other corals in the tank are fine, no algae or bleaching on anything else. I’m running a hydra 26, ab+ At about 70% with less green and red."

We are looking at a picture, OP sees it in the flesh, which is why I asked him.

I don’t think the OP knows what you mean by base. There are no polyps or tissue where the basal tissue originally was.

Tissue loss no doubt. Assure parameters are where they should be without chasing numbers. Pay attention to ph/alk and also salinity. You could have high salinity and getting false numbers.
Wouldn't be a bad idea to get a second opinion and comparison, taking a water sample to a trusted LFS for water test. Start with salinity.

ORA Red Planet has always been one of my favorite acros, but they can be tricky to acclimate. If this is a case of acclimation, you can try to frag off the dead spot and re glue the frags in different areas of the tank, high flow / low flow, higher PAR / lower PAR and see what happens. I have had good and bad luck with RP, usually based on the parameters of the tank it came from being wildly different than mine. When it settles in, it is one of the hardiest and nicest looking IMO

What are these then? I asked because I have seen this occur with RP before.

I guess we will have to wait and see what OP says, hopefully we can help him out.

Probably algae since they don’t look like the polyps on the viable tissue, or any polyps I’ve ever seen for that matter.

Looks like a couple specks of flesh hanging on to me.

With both anthocercis, and cyntherea I have seen the tissue bleach out white with only the corallites tentacles themselves retaining color/zooanxthelle.

It's hard to tell, but from having had an ORA RP, STN myself, my initial feeling was tissue necrosis, which means super glue the dead spots or frag right away.

Hey thanks for all the input everyone. I’m working so I’ll have to wait until the morning to take a look at it. I’ll get a closer look at the spots towards the base and report back.

Here’s a couple of close ups. Looks like one piece of flesh and some algae maybe? They kinda look like little balls.

Those look like AEFW eggsto my eyes, I can also see an adult and a bite mark, I was wrong about those maybe being polyps but I'm we glad we had you provide a focused in pic nonetheless because I think we just found the culprit unfortunately.

AEFW, not STN

I am unsure of the current most effective techniques as my last aefw battle was in 2013, I used repeated Bayer dips, scrubbing, quarantine and admittedly lost.

Maybe someone with more recent success /better method with battling aefw will chime in, but unfortunately I'm fairly certain that's what we have here

Not bueno. I’ve never had aefw so hopefully someone else can guide you in the right direction, but I would toss that piece and keep and keep an eye one your other acros. Do not buy any more until your tank is free of those little monsters. Good luck bud.

Alright thanks. Live and learn. I knew I should have been dipping, just get a little rushed sometimes and hope for he best. Dipping from here on out. I’ll keep updating to track my outcome (not looking so good).

Toss that piece and hope your WD won’t see that.
