Hey guys, i got a complementary sun coral (i guess), though i was never a fan of it, but since i got it as a gift, i kept it. I dont know howmany times to feed it. I have frozen mysis, rotifers, cyclops and lobster eggs.

That looks like a Dendrophyllia.

Target feed 3 times a week. Cover coral, add a small amount of a slurry of mixed seafoods. Wait 10-15 for a noticeable feeding response and then add the rest of the food.

Could be a Tubstraea, feeding regiment will be the same.

Definitely looks like a dendro! Nice find :D

This is what you have to look forward to if so...

Started as 3 heads

Now up to 16 after a few months of feeding it well

Alternately it could be a branching Tubastrea though... It's hard to tell as it appears slightly malnourished...

Post some, post feeding photos of it.

Iv fed him 2ice in 2 days, i guess ill feed it tomorow. First day i fed it a mix of cyclops, lobster eggs and rotifers all frozen, the other day i fed it frozen mysis. I try feesing it during the day light, so it stays open when lights are on.

Man, wherever gives out complementary dendros is a place I want to shop.

Definitely looks to be dendro.

Here's an example of sun coral

Body is more of a pink where dendro is whiter and heads are smaller most the time.
I feed mine almost everyday reef roids and oyster feast.
It's usually open all day and night and I feed during the day usually mid afternoon

So u suggest feeding everyday?

I feed almost everyday but yea if you want some good growth I'd feed close to everyday but watch bioload. I spot feed sun coral everyday and generally feed the tank with left overs and then I spot feed everything else every other day but at night or evening

I feed pellets every alternate day, and frozen every alternate day to my seafans and tubeworms (feather dusters), fishes also eat them.

More than likely Tubastraea coccinea. Albeit very malnourished.

The Dendrophylliidae family is incredibly diverse making them difficult to ID (especially since some look very similar), but this is showing classic skeletal growth of Tubastraea genus. Here's some more good info on the genus.

Definitely recommend sticking with meaty foods and avoiding pellets. Pellets contain fillers such as corn, which most corals don't eat in nature ;) We've seen some really funky things happen to LPS over time that are fed pellets long term.

That definitely looks like a dendro to me. If that were a "pink" suncoral there is now way you could nurse it back to health looking like that. I had a pink one years ago and a friend of mine neglected to feed it while I was out of town for two weeks. It turned white and died. It refused to eat. In this tank I had a black suncoral and a pink. The black one just stopped eating one day. After 2 weeks it turned white and died. The pink one is doing great.

I've kept dendros and fed them about every other day. I fed them chunks of fish, inverts and prepared foods like pellets. Mix it up and they'll get all their nutrients.
