I didn't know and plus i had used mircle mud and it turned everyting into miss river mud tank...
Got pieces in there now....
went to local store to get clean up crew and she said if she sold em to me they would die cause theres nothing that eats the diatoms.
I just need to stir sand or remove chunks and let it run its course...scratching my head at that but ok...

So today im sending in my bf to get some for his tank...then I'll take some of his...
he does need some for his hermits jacked alot of the smaller snails shells...forced the snail right out....

When should I add macro algea to refugium

1month after my display setup I set my refugium up. Added tank water and fresh saltwater, let it sit for like 2-3 days then added chaeto and started it cycling through. 2-3 days later nothing is dead ;p I'm not sure if I did it right, didn't care to look. I just wanted to add tigger pods asap for my scooter blenny. I still have the diatoms in my display. Currently have 2 fish, 3 hermits, 2 snails, 1 coral. Tank is 5 weeks old tomorrow. 15 gallon total water capacity. My levels look good except for dKh is high from my marine buffer and the calcium is low (330) I didn't test magnesium yet. I ordered a calcium additive and a magnesium test kit.

Lady at petco didn't want to sell me a nassarius snail because my nitrates were at 20. Haven't lost anything yet and it's been like 2 weeks. Nitrates are at or below 5.

So I can add hermits and snails to help clear this up?
As for snails astrea snails...and nassaures....I know I misspelled those
Now what about a pair of clowns and lots of corals. and a conch named pat...lol

Get trochus snails. My cycle just finished also. 6 snails and 2 emerald crabs cleaned up the mess in 5days. Tried the astreaea and got tired of flipping them back upright.

I do need to replace a few in other tanks...And the lfs lady wont get my money...lol

I did not get hermits. To many other people said they killed the smaller snails for their shells. Also thought best to go slow so bought 6 trochus snails and couple emerald crabs. Been two weeks and rock work is getting cleaned up. I will add some cerith snails thus week. They add smaller and can go where trochus can't. .

I don't know but don't think that would be a bad thing. Survival would be limited by food supply.

ok added 2 turbo snails and like 7 hermits..to the tank.
I also added 5 frags to tank on wed or thurs...going to check water parameters tomorrow.
Also will be adding a couple more snails and probably a few more hermits.

ANother dumb question...
When I do water changes to the tank...
Do i siphon the water from display tank or from sump? hehehe like i said dumb question....
but i've only used hang on back filters so learning something else....

You will add the algae after you have some critters to make nitrate. It won't grow in a sterile tank.
