Is this the dreaded aefw ?

I've been having problems with one of my sps frags and snapped a few pics to see if there is a bigger problem than water chemistry, the back side of the coral looks different than the rest of the coral and the encrusting growth turned black ?? I've never heard of this happening so I'm asking for a bit of help on this one here are some pics because they are better than I can explain hah

While it certainly doesn't look the healthiest, I don't see any evidence of AEFW in the photos.

It may be. Get some tank water in a container and blow the frag off really good with a turkey baster inside the container. Flat worms may blow off.

I agree with the first post. I don't see any evidence of AEFW's. IME small frags like that tend to be sensitive to less than perfect conditions of any kind.

I didn't see any flatworms or eggs but I just wanted to make sure because the back looks kinda like it had been eaten but that's the only coral I've seen a problem with

In a way, it looks like AEFW with the way the tissue is more pale in certain areas compared to the other but then again it could be that thee frag is just not doing well. I assume you didn't dip your new frag. If you didn't, you take that chance every time. With that being said, buy some CoralRx if you don't have any and start dipping your corals. It can be the difference between a healthy tank and an epidemic.

If you lose the frag because of water chemistry or simply too much stress on the frag itself, that's one thing BUT releasing AEFW or any other parasite is another.

To be 99% safe, QT your new livestock. Yes it's a drag but I have seen countless tanks worth thousands of dollars in SPS colonies alone crumble because they didn't take precautionary measures.
