Hi there,

I am fishless cycling my tank (I am around day 15) and I was wondering if I put too much sand in my 32-gallon tank.

At the highest point, live sand is about 6,5cm tall. Is that too much?

Thanks in advance for your answers!!

I really like your rock scape and look forward to seeing some life in there.

Thank you very very much! Super appreciated! However, I am still having very high nitrites and high nitrates despite 0 ammonia since yesterday!

I think it's gonna take a few weeks more before cycle is complete.

Inch to inch and half is fine as you don’t want to trap detruis, rather, be able to suspend it and remove through mechanical filtration.

On the the other hand that looks fab!

A few weeks cycle?

Naw, if you added any bottled bacteria your good to go days ago.

Thank you, very happy to hear these comments It's my first time ever with Reef.

I grew up with my dad having a sweet water tank and always telling me "never do a salt water tank, it's too difficult! haha!!

Oh, really? Todays reading were:

Ammonia: 0ppm
Nitrite: 5ppm
Nitrate: 70ppm

What should I do?

(I used red sea reef mature pro kit without nopox cause I used dry rock).

Nitrites are a nonfactor in saltwater, you can stop testing, they do give you false high readings of nitrate. I think you are cycled, do a water change and you are good to go SLOWLY.

Sand looks an OK depth to me! My 9nly question is did you place your rock ok top of that sand? Especially if you have any sand moving species that rock may collapse your scape or crush the little critters/smack hard into your glass

Actually yes, rocks are on top of the sand. But the little rocks above are glued to the big rocks below.

It's supposed to be fine!

Rocks should be on the bottom glass. It’s easy to fix now. Fixing when you are stocked is hard. I have deep sand and cleaning the glass is tedious. The algae buildup between the sand and glass is difficult to scrub. You will need a sand sifting crew for sure. Conch, sand sifting starfish and periscope snails should work. The bacteria in your tank will be very helpful. Good luck

Should I just put my hands in the tank and press/move the rocks inside the sand?
