Hey guys, I’ve had this torch for about 5 months, it’s been doing great, even started to split into another head. My Params have been stable for the 5 months, then all of a sudden today the torch shriveled up and the mouth gasped open and is letting out this brown “poop” I’d almost call it. It happened in about an hours time. Is the coral just cleaning itself? Or is it dying?

I cant really tell what is going on here or if it is dying, but from my experience I know most Euphyllia will go through some bad looking periods, but the tentacles do look a tad worrying here, hopefully someone more knowledgeable can chime in.

Ya I read that sometimes they will “clean” themselves but I’ve never experienced it before so I wanted to ask. I don’t see any signs of brown jelly other than the stringy stuff coming out

How long was it before yours came back to full health? Hours? Days? Weeks?

Does look like poop, my hammer coral sometimes shrivels up alittle when it poops, give it till tomorrow, if still like that. It might be something else.

My frogspawn looked similar to this a couple days ago, aside from the polyps deflating. Like Evan said, he just needed to let a little poop out. I also think that its got something to do with creating a new head because I just noticed a second mouth today. It looks normal now though, hope yours does the same!

When my Euphylia does this it usually will last from 1-3 days.
After reading what other people said, I agree that it probably just needed to let some poop out, how is it doing now?

It looks the same this morning, it’s not receding inside of its skeleton, and doesn’t seem to melting away, I think if it was something like brown jelly it would have done more damage by now. The one mouth seems to still be open a bit more than usual though.

Got home from work today, it is definitely brown jelly, I removed the torch put it in a peroxide dip, I didn’t have anything else on hand, and blew off all the brown jelly. One head was saved, the other just melted away. Hopefully the one head pulls through.

Sorry man, I haven't had to death with brown jelly, however, I do know what it is like to have a rock fall over breaking your hammer coral, ultimately though, if your coral survives, you will be very happy seeing the new growth!
