Hey so I just recently transferred everything from my 17 gallon to my new reefer 350. Everything seems fine, but I noticed the base of this torch seems to have turned white? Maybe it's always been like this, but I don't recall. Does anyone know if this looks normal?

Looks normal. However, that brown dust underneath and the bubbles on the rocks might tell a different story.

The brown dust is diatoms and the bubbles on the rocks I believe is just the algae giving off carbon dioxide right? What concerns me is the purple area of the torch's base seems to be retracting and I don't recall ever seeing that white area below it. It reminds me of my stylo frag that started STN'ing once.

I've heard of corals tissue receding in low alk. What is your alkalinity? Otherwise it looks just fine to me

Yeah most likely diatoms. The white you see is something I've seen on my euphyllia. It's normal and will come and go periodically.

My frogspawn looks like that after my snails (clean) it

Thanks for the replies guys. I will monitor closely, but I am relieved to hear that it sounds normal. My alk is 9.5 for the record. I think I want to bring it down a little though.

Unfortunately, I think it's getting worse. The purple part of the base is getting closer to the head. It looks like tissue necrosis, and I think I'm going to move it to lower light. I can't get a good picture unfortunately.
