Is this what a working skimmer looks like?

This week I set up my first protein skimmer but want to be sure I did it right.

Hi, today I had a look at my skimmer, which has been foaming as described in other posts in this forum, but want to be sure all's well, so I took a picture of the "results" I got after about a week:

Is it supposed to look like this?

Tank is still cycling and won't add any fish until I am confident I am getting it right.

Thanks for all your help, folks.

Looks like you are skimming wet which I think is the correct way to run a skimmer.

The color of skimmate is usually the color of tea or beer, the wetter you skimmer, the lighter the color. The green color you have could have resulted from skimming phytoplankton, something growing in the skimmate, or rarely, a green organic compound.

What method are you using for cycling? I would not expect much skimmate if you were using the fishless method.

I'd maybe raise the cup up a little if possible or the whole body of the skimmer. Just like 1/2"
+1 the green in the skimmer cup indicates phyto.... darker green is gonna be what ur looking for.
When u add a bioload it will increase in production of fish poo.

Thanks,
Yes doing fishless cycle, at week 3 at the moment and towards the end of it based on Sunday's readings.
