Is this what melting looks like?

hello!
I just had some zoas that I noticed a single polyp was closed. I accidentally squished it and brown stuff came out. No it wasn't zooanthelle. It was the consistency of thick mushed peas but brown. Here's some pics of after, because it's now a crater...

IMO they are just closed up.
Did you add or do something that your water parameters did change?

Try a dip and see what comes off.
If it melts or slimmed up it never is just one.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think when people say melting zoas, they don't mean it literally. - it is when they're dying (never opens up), gradually getting smaller and smaller until they disappear.

How long they've been closed?

I never know if melting is a generic term lol but I'm using it literally. That one polyp just turned to mush the other polyps we open today, just that one was closed.

I've had zoas do that. Unfortunately it did not end well for me.

Oh, I am just guessing, because that's how interpret it based from my observation from other guys having similar issues. Hehe

That's probably a poked polyp.
It got hurt by tweezers or another rock.
Leave it alone and observe.
If that's the case it will get back to normal after a while..

Had my rastas do that. Put them in low flow and medium light and just leave them dont bother them... They seem like they are very stressed..

After introducing a turbo, its beeing eating the majority of the diatoms that are on the racks. Ive been making sure to brush off the diatoms covering the polyps and things are looking good. Minimum closure on polyps and even some growth
The ones that we had spoke about that were tightly closed, they didnt make it. I think the pods ate them because theyre gone.
I honestly think you were right about the "fresh" frags couldnt handle the new system. Wont make that mistake again.
Thankfully, Ive only lost 3 frags so far and of those, I still have the mother colonies so no harm done
