Is this what melting looks like?

Never had anything melt on me before. I’ve been fortunate so far. But I’m guessing this is what it looks like?
Is there anything I can do? I just bought it yesterday.

Unfortunately, that coral appears to be melting away. Looks too far gone to save. Do you know if there was any brown slime involved, or did it just wither away?

It certainly doesn’t look salvageable to me. Do you have any reef dip or iodine available?

Yes. I dipped it in coral rx then tank water then iodine, then tank water before it went into the tank. I I would say it’s been in there 16 hours and looked great when I put it in.

What species of coral was it? Some just don’t last very long in aquariums.

My guess is that it had some sort of bacterial infection beyond your control. I’d remove it before it infects other corals, though.

I am sorry, i don't see the mouth anymore. You can try to keep blasting off dead tissue, and hope whatever is left grows a new mouth. But, than you have to keep the skeleton free of algae. Or else the algae kills the left over coral.

Edit: at this point I would do a peroxide dip. 3 ounces of tank water / 1 ounce of peroxide and clean off what you can

I removed it. It was a cheaper coral then what else I have in there as I want to protect my scoly. Thanks for the help guys. Now I know.

GL, These events happen and it's difficult to know why. Happens to all of us.
