I personally love the look and flow of xenia in a tank and would love to have it in my tank, however I have heard a lot of gripe about how it will take over your tank. Is this true? Is it pretty easy to prevent from doing so if it does?

+1 We have some in our tank that we got on a piece of live rock with cabbage leather coral and that was 2 months ago and it hasn't gone crazy yet. The BF and I adore it, but when do we start to worry?

It's not like anything can take over your tank unless you let it. If you monitor the growth and spread you should be fine.
I have Anthelia, Xenia, Clove polyp, kenya tree, and Green Star polyp all growing in my nano. I have had to prune back and dispose of some Anthelia, and move some GSP to another tank....I see it as part of my tank maintenance is all.

My cloves are getting a little out of control how do i manage them?

Rip it off by hand if you don't want it in a certain place. Works for us.
Kept it exactly where I want it for the past 15 months.

Agree with comments above. If you keep it isolated to one area it's not bad and it won't grow out of control.

You can also use a paste made from kalk ....it will kill/burn anything it touches so be careful with it. I leave it on about 5 minutes and than siphone it and many of the dead polyps off.
I have also used a scalpel, and razor blades....I do it during WC so I can just slurp up the ones I've cut out
