Hi everyone - having some serious issues with my ato and my rollermatt.

Equipment :

Roller Matt: trigger platinum sump 39 with built in rollermatt

ato: smart ato with the sensor in the return section of my sump.

For the longest time, my rollermat sensors were not engaging. This would cause a water buildup in the rollermatt chamber thus reducing the water level in my sump, triggering my ato, which doesn’t stop adding water to my tank until my reservoir is empty. Thank god I only add 5g at a time to my reservoir and my tank is around 150g give or take. Usually drops salinity to 34.5 ppm. I run 35.1-35.5ish.

trigger sent me an entirely new rollermat - new sensors, wires, like literally everything minus the sump. I didn’t run into the same issue for a good 2 months until recently. Once last week and just now.

Let’s start with last week - same issue as before. Sensors not engaging. I’m going to call trigger tomorrow and see what they have to say now. I doubt they will have an answer for me since I switched out the entire mechanism.

just now - now I’m at a loss here. The sensors engaged. But the ato kept pumping. I’m looking at my sump now and I see some asterina starfish near my sensor. Before I jump to the conclusion that a stupid ******* starfish blocked my sensor, is there anything that I’m doing wrong?

Is there an ato out there that would stop pumping water if it’s continuously pumping water for more than idk let’s say 10’seconds?

Sigh, now I remember why I quit the hobby back in 2014 (besides trying to have a full blown reef in my moms living room that no one was ever allowed to enter). It’s always something. Nothing is ever easy! So frustrating. Bought a house recently. Splurged on my tank and tried to add the best equipment out there and I can’t get something as simple as my dang ato right lol.

Have you thought about this?

Did you ever fix the issue with the sensor? Same sump and after about 6 months it seems the motor doesnt have the torque to roll the matt and just gives up. then the rollermat area overflows. thats about 2 gallons in my 240g so not a big issue if it happens but its annoying for other reasons

How often are you removing the old fleece? I have to remove when it’s halfway or I have same issue. Otherwise your motor sounds shot. Had to replace the entire assembly. Just make sure you shake up the roller sensor once a week.

I am running into a new issue where ever a small amount of fleece is causing the motor to skip. Im not sure if the motor is broken since its clearly trying, just seems underpowered. ill contact trigger again.
