so this is my second unit, the first lasted a week. I am now 8 months with this unit and am constantly having issues with the right side not working. I have ordered new parts twice, access of an extra $100 minimum. Just cleaned my unit again two days ago, and yesterday the right side stopped spinning again. Works for a week, a day, 10 minutes and then gives up. So I am considering retiring the gyre, the flow has been wonderful when it has worked, but it is inconsistent and in my opinion the build quality is ..........
I have a 187g 60"x30"x24" mixed reef, what should I replace this with? I am looking at 2x MP40Qd or have started reading about the Apex WAV system, but little info to find. I am upgrading my controller to Apex from RKE and I would expect quality from Apex in what they build, Ecotech I have had in the past and they have a long history of domination in the power head spectrum (incl. a battery back up).
Has anyone used the Gyre setting with the MP40qd and do you find that you have way more control (I.e. auto switching to different settings throu out the day) once connected to the Apex, or is reef link worth it? Does anyone have experience with the WAV system?

Same problem here too. I got the gyre to supplement my mp40s. Worked a couple weeks and then the right side quit. The one side still provides a lot of water movement so I still use it with my mp 40s during the day. I cant say enough about the mo40 QD. They are so quiet and powerful. We had a power outage and I freaked out cause I can usually hear my mp40s on battery backup but not the quiet drive. All was well after 10 hrs of no power. Have tried the gyre feature yet on the mp40qd.

I have 2 x xf150 and 1 x xf130 for about 2 months now and had no issues at all.

In your case it can't be a motor/shaft issue as they are one unit and if there was an issue both sides would fail.
Did you line up the propeller correct with the flat side of the shaft? If you don't do that properly the propeller will stop turning at some point as he has no grip anymore.

My only issue was the motor block wire them they replaced immediately. It was coming apart . I can see where someone could have alignment issues cause it is hard to see the flat side on the shaft

I know this isn't a pro Gyre thread lol but I have been running mine for almost 8 months with 0 problems.....I agree with MAXreefer...make sure the propellers are all lined up correctly. Both sides spin off of the same motor.

I appreciate the comments, props are definitely lined up. When I purchased my first Xp150 I pulled it all apart to learn what was needed to clean and repair it. The post lost its edge and would spin continuously. The unit was replaced, the second is acting the same. The only thing that hasn't been replaced is the post coming out of the motor. I've replaced 3 props., and a handful of the various bits. It seems that I am having to do this every month-1 1/2. To me that is not reliable. I really love the unit, but if it is costing me to constantly repair then it is not worth it. My Tunze 6105's have been work horses since day 1, no issues and get cleaned every 1/4.
So WAV or MP40QD?
