Folks,

I just got a new 1/4 HP Arctic Chiller for my tank, and it doesn't appear to be cooling the water. My total system volume is about 160 gallons, and I've had the unit running overnight, and it has hardly made a change in water temp, in over 12 hours.

The compressor comes on for maybe about 2 minutes, then cycles off for a few, and then back on. It makes a low hissing sound when the compressor is running, and the unit itself is moderately warm to the touch on all sides.

Any ideas on what to troubleshoot, before I return it?

Thanks!

2 minute cycle might not get much done. Most chillers need to cycle for longer periods of time to work well. If it is cycling off on it's own, then that is no good.

Call the manufacturer and see if they can offer any help.

Thanks, and yes, it is cycling on/off on it's own. I'll check with JBJ and see what they say.
