My new tank is alive, first fish, question, lfs suggested frozen food, so i bought a frozen bag, later on opened bag, wife had a fit over the smell, it was pretty strong, so, how do y’all handle storing handling and feeding,or is it just as good to go to pellets or flakes, thanks

You’d be feeding only a tiny bit if just one clown. I put frozen food in a small container to thaw out for about 10 mins and use a turkey baster to feed. Clean container immediately after. You can get by with pellets or flakes just like ndrwater mentioned.

Look at it as Fresh seafood (cos' it is)

I break up my food into individual portion sizes and place into these small containers. When ready to feed, I remove one from the freezer, add a little tank water, then toss in my sump to fully thaw... then dump the contents into my DT.

I usually only have to refill all the containers about every 10-14 days... so fish smell only occasionally, lol.

If the bag of frozen food smelled that bad, being still frozen, it was prob rotten. It will smell a bit like fish but not like you are at a fish market. Cubes are the best. Get a few different ones. Spiralina brine shrimp and mysis are good. 1 fish that small can only eat a few small bits at a time. 1 cube could last 3 to 4 days. I would avoid pellets and flake foods. It is to easy to overfeed with them.

+1 to cubes.

Some people have a better sense of smell. I can't say as though I've ever had a bag of frozen stink.
Early on, I just took a little frozen cube and shredded about 1/4 of it straight into the tank with a little cheese grater, then balled the remainder back up into a little piece of foil for the evening.

Congrats on your first fish!
