It’s happening.

Sweet. Thank you so much for helping me relax

Kid... you seem to be in a rush. You'd better slow down.

You MUST resist the urge to rush. You'll get there. But if you're going to rush, you're headed for big problems.

When you are ready to add fish, go slow. Be sure to quarantine. It only takes one diseased fish to wipe out your tank.

Keep in mind any filtration on the tank while you are dosing chemicals will likely reduce the effectiveness of said chemicals. I like the carbon filter idea but I would run that for a few days, remove then dose a few chemicals. As Dom said, don't rush. Lack of patience is a sure fire way to fail.

I’m not rushing at all, it’s actually been about 4 months. I just wanted to make sure I had a solution to the trash can problem..

I’m not trying to rush at all, I’ve been taking it slow lol. I was just nervous about not cleaning the trash can

You will have a lot of those moments. They are usually just speed bumps but on new tanks failure is often tracked back to getting excited and moving too fast... a place most of us have been in this hobby.

Yeah I’m not trying to rush it at all, I will take it slow! I’m adding a couple fish at a time, and being thorough. I didn’t know what to do with the can but realized I had chemi pure, yet no carbon, since I already started making rodi/ mixing salt and it’s sunday so couldn’t get any carbon

In my rookie years, i upgraded to a bigger tank. I brought 2 storage containers (black with the yellow top) from Home Depot to hold my live stock. I didn't rinse them out. After about an hour with all my fish and corals in them, there was an oil sheen on the water surface in both containers. Everything survived. Lost nothing. If that is a Brute trash can, they are food grade. I wouldn't worry about it. Keep calm and reef on.

Thank you so much. It’s a brute trash can.

But, I am about to rinse my tank equipment. (Skimmer and return pump, circulation pumps too.) should I get some hot water/ wipe down and dry thoroughly to make sure nothing is on them?

I am about to clean my equipment, though. Can I heat up some water and wipe down my new skimmer, circulation pumps, and return pump? then dry them

If it is new, no. If it is used and been sitting somewhere some containments got on them, cleaning them first is a good idea.

I usually don't worry about wiping down stuff like that since they were constructed from materials that were intended for use in an aquarium. Leeching into your water isn't an issue.

I wiped it all down just in case. Thanks for all your help!!!

Clean when possible. once you get the first batch of water in an dyou have an empty barrel, then do a good cleaning for the next fill. all u can really do at this point. always good practice to wipe down everything that goes into the tank including any equipment you add down the road. excited for you Good Luck
